Directly inspired by nomadic desert clothing and classic contemporary representations of the period, very little is known about how the ancient Hebrews of the 1st century dressed. Some believe that Roman dress was the norm and that it was widespread among the wealthier classes of the population at the time. Indeed, "new" Roman tunics have been found in the caves where the notorious "Zealots" hid during the wars of reconquest of Roman-occupied Judea. But it's highly unlikely that the Hebrews, among the most religious or the poorest, had to dress like the Roman invaders.
