Very simple but yet effective prop to create a 360 degrees stars view.
Overly large ball with ultra high resolution stars diffuse and glow maps (courtesy of NASA website).
Place lights and create your scene inside the ball with a freedom of 360 degrees camera movement.
Enable HDR and Glare for the best visual.
Cass and a spaceship from preview image are not included.
UPDATE: I did flip the face and disabled "2 sided" for the ball material (making the front face of the ball invisible), so that the stars would be visible all around from even greater distance.
For overly great distance you may need to increase the "Far Clipping Plane" for the camera.
